What you need to know about debit cards

A debit card is similar in appearance to a credit card, but there is usually another logo either on the back or front of the card that identifies it as a debit card. Debit cards allow you to pay for goods from your bank account right away, because it is linked to your bank account, and the amount of your purchases are deducted directly from that account. Most debit cards double up as "cheque guarantee cards", guaranteeing that your cheque will be honoured by your bank up to a stated amount. When you place an order with us, we contact your card´s issuing bank to confirm that your debit card is valid and your account has enough funds to cover your purchase. This authorization process takes between 10 to 60 seconds. Using your debit card to make purchases via our website is a secure way to pay for your order and as safe as paying through the teller in the high street shop. There are a number of security steps in place to give you total confidence when dealing with us through the Internet:

Online security
If you buy something with your debit card from us, you can safely enter your entire debit card number via our secure server, which encrypts all submitted information. Your rights
If you buy something with your debit card from us, you have the same rights as if you went in and paid over the counter in cash. In fact, you have some extra rights, including a cooling off period, so if you don´t like something you can send it back. For more information please refer to our Returns Policy
Equal liability
If you buy something with your debit card from us and the product is defective, we will replace it according to our Returns or Warranty policies without any questions. Unfortunately, your protection is greater if you use a credit card. This is because the credit card issuer is jointly liable under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act if the goods received are faulty or if they are not received at all. In these circumstances the credit cardholder will be able to get their money back from their card issuer but the debit cardholder probably would not.

Paying by Solo, Switch/Maestro cards online

Switch brand has now been merged with Maestro, an international debit card brand. In addition to your debit card number which is embossed on the front of the card (not on the bottom) and cardholder´s name, we will ask you to provide us an issue number, the three-digits security number printed on the signature strip on the back of the card and your land line telephone number during the order checkout.

If you can´t find or can´t read the three-digits security number, then leave the CVV field on the order form blank. Our processor makes a decision whether to accept or decline your card and if there is an issue, then we will contact you directly to discuss.

A landline telephone number is required in some cases. The main reason for this is related to security and in the event that we encounter issues regarding payment details or delivery addresses, we will contact you on this number to clarify the situation.

In addition to your debit card number, expiration date and cardholder´s name we will ask you to provide us a start date, the three-digits security number printed on the signature strip on the back of the card and your land line telephone number during the order checkout.

Alternative way to submit your debit card details

We have a way for you to use your debit card without ever having to enter the complete number on the Internet. During the order checkout simply select "Pay by Fax" option. This gives us a way to track your order but guarantees you an additional layer of security and peace of mind. Then fax us your debit card debit card details to: 0800 471 5001. Remember to include your order reference number along with card details on the fax.
